There is no single first-time itinerary. Start with the landscape and pace you care about most, then build outward.
7–10 daysPair Tirana with Berat and Gjirokastër, then slow down on the southern Riviera. It is the broadest introduction to Albania’s culture, food and coast.
6–8 daysCombine lively city days and UNESCO towns with time beside the Ionian Sea. Best for travelers who want variety without long mountain hikes.
5–8 daysTravel north through Shkodër to Theth or Valbona for stone villages, generous tables and trails framed by the Albanian Alps.

Albania is compact on the map, but mountain roads and irresistible stops change the rhythm. A good first trip leaves room for a long lunch, a swim, a market and the view you did not plan for.
May, June, September and early October bring warm days and a calmer pace. July and August are best for full summer energy and warm seas.
Seven to ten days is the sweet spot for a first visit. Add more time if you want both the northern mountains and the southern coast.
The Albanian lek is the local currency. Cards are common in cities and hotels, but cash remains useful in villages, markets and small restaurants.
Albanian is the national language. English is widely used in tourism, while a simple ‘faleminderit’—thank you—always goes a long way.
Well-paced journeys that bring Albania’s most memorable landscapes and stories together.
