About this trip

Tour / This

A private winter road trip balances a night in Razëm, the heritage of Krujë and Berat, lakeside Shkodër and time to enjoy Tirana over New Year.

Begin in Tirana, where Skanderbeg Square, the New Bazaar and festive streets introduce the capital. Your rental car gives you the freedom to follow a personalised route north through Krujë’s castle and bazaar to Shkodër, with time for Rozafa Castle and the lakeside at Shirokë. Spend a night in Razëm, taking in mountain views and short nature walks where winter conditions allow. Return through Shkodër before heading south to Berat’s Mangalem, Gorica and castle quarter. Back in Tirana, leave the evening free to enjoy the city’s New Year atmosphere at your own pace. A relaxed first day of the year and an excursion to Durrës round out the journey. Nine nights in private-room accommodation, a proposed meal allowance and travel assistance support the self-drive experience; hotels, vehicle arrangements and festive supplements are confirmed individually.

The full itinerary

Day 1Tiranë

Tiranë

Arrive in Tirana and collect your rental car according to the confirmed arrangements. After checking in, begin exploring the capital at your own pace: Skanderbeg Square, the New Bazaar and the festive streets introduce the city without a tightly scheduled first day. Adapt your walk to your arrival time and the places open over Christmas. Overnight in Tirana.

You will VisitTirana

Day 2Krujë

Krujë

Leave Tirana for Krujë, where the castle and historic bazaar form the day’s first stop. Take time to explore before continuing north to Shkodër. Once settled into your accommodation, enjoy an evening walk through the old town. This day combines heritage and driving, so allow flexibility for road conditions, visits and winter daylight. Overnight in Shkodër.

You will VisitKrujë’s bazaar and the road north

Day 3Shirokë

Shirokë

Devote the day to Shkodër and its lake. Explore Rozafa Castle, then make time for the lakeside at Shirokë and the city’s pedestrian centre. The route leaves room for pauses and photographs rather than a full schedule of indoor visits. If open, the Marubi Museum is an optional addition, with admission paid separately. Return to your accommodation for a second night in Shkodër.

You will VisitRozafa Castle and Lake Shkodër

Day 4A mountain retreat in Razëm

A mountain retreat in Razëm

Travel from Shkodër to Razëm for a change of scenery and a night in the mountains. Enjoy the views, fresh air and short nature walks only where the weather, snow and local conditions make them safe. The focus is a relaxed mountain stay, not a technical hike or a guaranteed snow activity. Access and any adjustments to the programme must be checked locally. Overnight in Razëm.

Day 5Shkodër

Shkodër

Keep the morning relaxed in Razëm before driving back to Shkodër. Where road conditions and safe stopping places allow, pause for mountain viewpoints and photographs along the way. There is no need to turn the return journey into a demanding activity day: enjoy the changing landscape and leave time to settle back into the city. Overnight in Shkodër.

You will VisitMountain morning, back to Shkodër

Day 6Berat

Berat

Drive south to Berat, allowing the day to balance the transfer with time in town. Explore Mangalem, Gorica and the castle quarter, following local opening hours for any interior visits. The appeal is in moving between the different historic quarters and taking time to look around. Museum and attraction admissions are separate from the proposed package. Overnight in Berat.

You will VisitBerat, the City of a Thousand Windows

Day 7New Year’s Eve in Tirana

New Year’s Eve in Tirana

Enjoy a gentle morning in Berat before returning to Tirana with plenty of time to check in and settle. The evening is yours to experience the festive city centre at your own pace. No gala dinner, ticketed celebration or particular public event is promised by this itinerary; arrange any special evening plans separately once availability is confirmed. Overnight in Tirana.

Day 8Parku i Madh i Tiranës

Parku i Madh i Tiranës

Let New Year’s Day unfold slowly. Tirana’s Grand Park, walks beside the lake and cafés that are open offer a flexible programme after the previous evening. Public holiday hours may limit attractions and services, so this is deliberately a day for simple outdoor time and independent exploring rather than fixed museum visits. Adjust your plans to the weather and local openings. Overnight in Tirana.

You will VisitA slow start to the New Year

Day 9Durrës

Durrës

Make a day trip to Durrës for a final change of scenery beside the Adriatic. Explore the seafront and old town, adding historic sites according to holiday opening hours and your interests. Visits and admissions remain flexible rather than tied to an unconfirmed schedule. Return to Tirana for the final night, leaving time to prepare for the following day’s car return and departure.

You will VisitDurrës and the winter Adriatic

Day 10Farewell to Albania

Farewell to Albania

Have breakfast according to your accommodation’s arrangements, then return the rental car and depart in line with your travel schedule. Confirm the return location and required timing with the rental supplier in advance. No sightseeing stop or additional overnight is planned today, keeping the final stage focused on a smooth end to your winter journey.
