About this trip

Tour / This

A short Albania route for limited time: UNESCO towns, ancient sites and the Ionian Riviera at a steady, readable pace.

Built for travellers who want Albania's strongest heritage and coast stories in one week of travel days, this express route keeps the geography simple. You start with Kruja's castle quarter and bazaar, then overnight in Berat's living historic centre. Apollonia and stone-built Gjirokastra follow, before the Blue Eye spring and Saranda on the Ionian. Butrint and a Ksamil pause lead north along the Riviera to Himara. The final day uses Porto Palermo and Llogara viewpoints before Vlora and the return to Tirana. Days are full but not stacked as a checklist - guided visits, scenic drives and included meals keep logistics light. Moderate walking on cobbles, castle grounds and archaeological paths; no technical hiking. Book private or join a shared departure when published. All meals are included. International flights are not included.

The full itinerary

Day 1Berat

Berat

Leave Tirana for Kruja's hilltop castle quarter and artisan bazaar, where Albania's national story meets a living craft street. Continue through central countryside to Berat for a guided walk through the inhabited castle, Byzantine traces and the historic neighbourhoods facing each other across the Osum River. Included meals keep the day simple. Overnight in Berat so the old town is not only a midday stop.

Day 2Gjirokaster

Gjirokaster

Travel from Berat to the archaeological park of Apollonia, once a significant city of the ancient Adriatic world. Continue south to stone-built Gjirokastra for the castle, bazaar lanes and distinctive houses. An evening in the old town after day visitors leave makes the overnight feel like a real stay rather than a checkpoint. Included dinner in town. Overnight in Gjirokastra.

Day 3Blue Eye

Blue Eye

Begin with extra time in Gjirokastra or a traditional-house visit when timing allows, then cross the southern landscape toward the Blue Eye spring. Walk the shaded path to the clear water before continuing to Saranda. Finish with a viewpoint above the bay and independent time along the waterfront. Overnight in Saranda beside the Ionian.

Butrint

Explore Butrint, where Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian layers sit inside a protected wetland landscape. Pause around Ksamil for lunch and seasonal coastal time when sea and schedule allow, then follow the Ionian road north past changing bays and villages. Arrive in Himara for a relaxed evening by the sea. Overnight in Himara.
