Shoestring: roughly €35–55 a day — hostels or simple guesthouses, local lunches, buses. Mid-range: about €70–110 — a clean 3★ or good B&B, mix of taxis and paid activities. Comfortable: €130–200+ — boutique or sea-view rooms, private transfers, guided days. Couples sharing a room can knock roughly 25–40% off the per-person stay line. Private guided holidays sit above the comfortable DIY band: you pay for logistics, not just a bed.
Food
Shoestring €12–20: byrek, soup, simple tavë or grilled fish, supermarket breakfasts. Mid-range €25–40: sit-down lunch and dinner, house wine, the odd seaside terrace. Comfortable €45–70+: better restaurants, Riviera seafood, café stops without watching every euro. Coffee is still a bargain (often under €2). Tourist-front tables in Ksamil cost more than a side street in Berat or Tirana.
Stays
Per night for a double unless noted: shoestring €20–40 for a dorm or basic private; mid-range €50–90 for clean 3★ and family hotels; comfortable €100–180+ for boutique or sea view — peak Riviera weeks can climb further. Book early for July–August on the south coast. Mountain guesthouses in Theth and Valbona are often fair value, but beds are limited in high season.
Transport
Furgons and buses: often €5–15 for intercity hops — slow but cheap. Car hire: roughly €30–50 a day plus fuel; automatics and peak weeks cost more. Taxis work well in cities — agree a price or use a meter. Many short airport and Riviera transfers add up. Domestic flights are rarely needed for a classic north–south loop.
Activities
Museum and site tickets are usually modest — single-digit to low-teens euros. Boat days near Ksamil, the Blue Eye, and guided hikes are the bigger discretionary lines: budget about €20–60 for a shared boat or day activity, more for private.
Make the budget work harder
Travel in May–June or September for better stay rates and open services. Sleep inland or one row back from the beach promenade. Prefer one longer transfer over many short taxis.
