Independence, old streets and living heritage
Vlora holds a singular place in the national story: Albania’s declaration of independence was proclaimed here in 1912. The Flag Square area and Independence Museum provide the historical frame, while the Muradie Mosque, attributed to the Ottoman architect Sinan, carries the story further back.
The restored old-town streets around Justin Godard are made for a slower walk between colourful façades, small cafés, craft shops and shaded courtyards. Visit in the morning for detail and atmosphere, then return after dark when the pedestrian lanes fill with local life.
